Pellets 4,5 mm
The 4.5 mm caliber is perhaps the most widely used airgun caliber in the world. In Anglo-American terms, it is also referred to as a cal. .177, meaning 0.177´´ (inch) diameter. Ammunition in the 4.5 mm caliber can take the form of pellets, plastic, steel or lead shot. Since this ammunition is the most widely used, there are the most varieties and types of this ammunition available. When choosing the right pellet, you should consider, among other things, the weight of the pellet in relation to the performance of your air gun, so that the ballistic properties are ideal. We therefore recommend:
- Projectile energy from 3 to 5 Joules - weight from 0.20 g to 0.40 g
- Projectile energy from 5 to 10 Joules - weight from 0.40 g to 0.60 g
- Projectile energy from 10 to 17 Joules - weight from 0.60 g to 0.90 g
- Projectile energy 17 Joules and over - weight from 0.90 g and over
Standard pellets and lead shots
Standard pellets are among the cheapest and are suitable especially for undemanding hobby shooters, who are more interested in fun than in improving their skills, or for shooters who have old air guns, which by their very nature cannot be characterized by good shooting qualities and therefore it is not worth loading more expensive pellets into them. Lead shot is also not an extra accurate ammunition and is rather used only in old models of air guns that do not allow to load a pellet. Among the most affordable hobby pellets are manufacturers such as KOVOHUTĚ PŘÍBRAM (Czech Republic) and GAMO (Spain).
Sport, target pellets
Target pellets generally have a flat head, for the reason that they make as large mark on the target as possible and bounce as little as possible. However, just because a pellet has a flat head does not mean that it is one of the sportiest, highest quality or most accurate. The best quality and most accurate pellets may also have other shapes (e. g. round or pointed head). Sporting pellets can even be made in hundredths of a millimeter calibers such as 4.49, 4.50, 4.51, 4.52, and, 4.53 mm. Quality pellets undergo detailed quality control to ensure that only the highest quality pieces reach the market. Among the highest quality manufacturers of sporting pellets are manufacturers such as JSB (Czech Republic) and Haendler & Natermann (Germany).
Hunting pellets
Hunting pellets are distinguished by their special shape, which is primarily adapted for hunting so as to have the most devastating and damaging effects. These include, for example, pointed pellets, hollow point pellets, pellets with cut edges, or pellets whose design combines a cavity with a point. Their destructive effects are often expressed by the name itself, such as Destroyer and Terminator.
Steel and plastic shots
Steel and plastic shots in cal. 4.5 mm are not suitable for all airguns. They are mostly used in some models of airguns that are powered by a CO2 cartridge and have smooth bore barrels with no bore. They are not usable in e. g. standard break barrel air guns because they would fall through the barrel, since their precision caliber is below 4.50 mm.
